Now and at the hour of death

The iconostasis by Sanna Nissinen consists of drawings and gilding on recycled and waste plywood and wood. This series of works was inspired by medieval statues of the Saints, now lost their hands. The icon painting seemed to be the easiest way to reach the mindset of a medieval artist, who worked in the name of God, not in his own. In the process it became more important aspect of the final outcome. The former themes of incompleteness and brokenness meet the thoughts of holiness and humanity awaken by thetheology of Orthodox icons.

Sanna Nissinen (born 1984) is Kuopio-based visual artist. She uses drawing and traditional techniques of sculpture in her often installation-like and serial works.
